Gal-T1    a-Lactalbumin
Gal-T1 (Galactosyltransferase-1) forms a 1:1 complex with a-Lactalbumin to form Lactose Synthase.

In the presence of a sugar substrate and metal ions, Gal-T1 undergoes a conformation change.

Reaction:
GalT1 alone
  UDP-Gal + GlcNAc » Galb1 - 4GlcNAc

GalT1 with a-Lactalbumin
  UDP-Gal + Glc » Galb1 - 4Glc
